Privacy Policy

This policy explains what information Millions of Michiganians ("we," "us" or "our") collects when you visit millionsofmichiganians.com (the "Site"), how we use it, and the choices you have. We keep data collection to a minimum: the Site mainly shares information about our work and links to our voter guide, and we do not sell your personal information.

Who we are and what this policy covers

Millions of Michiganians is based at 614 Seymour Ave., Lansing, MI 48933, and is dedicated to building a more progressive Michigan by supporting those who side with working families and Michigan's diverse communities. This policy applies only to information collected through the Site. It does not cover other websites we link to, including our voter guide at progressivevotersguide.com/michigan.

"Personal Information" means information that identifies you or can reasonably be linked to you, such as your name, email address, phone number or street address. "Anonymous Information" means information that does not identify you, such as aggregated visit counts.

Your agreement

By using the Site, you agree to this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree with it, please do not use the Site.

Information we collect

We collect only the information described below.

Information you give us. If you email us, contact us through the Site, or sign up for updates or other features we may offer, we collect what you provide, such as your name, email address, phone number, ZIP code and the content of your message. Please do not send us sensitive information (such as financial account numbers or health information) through the Site or by email.

Information collected automatically. Like most websites, our hosting provider and the advertising and analytics tools described below may automatically record technical information when you visit, including your IP address, browser type, device and operating system, the pages you view, the date and time of your visit, and the website that referred you. We use this information to keep the Site running, understand how it is used, and protect it from abuse.

Information from other sources. We may receive information about you from partner organizations or other third parties, such as publicly available voter-file or contact information, and may combine it with information you give us. We use that information only as described in this policy.

How we use your information

We use the information we collect to:

  • operate, maintain, secure and improve the Site;
  • respond to your questions and requests;
  • send you updates about our work, ways to take action, and other communications you have asked for or that relate to our mission, which you can opt out of at any time;
  • analyze Site usage in order to improve its content, functionality and usability;
  • comply with the law, including applicable campaign finance and disclosure requirements, and protect our rights and the safety of others.

We do not use the Site to make decisions about you based on automated profiling, and we do not knowingly collect Personal Information for any purpose other than those listed here.

How we share information

We do not sell or rent your Personal Information. We share it only in these situations:

  • Service providers. Companies that help us run the Site and our communications, such as website hosting, email and text-messaging platforms, analytics, and database tools. For example, when you sign up for email or text updates through the Site, the information you submit (such as your name, email address, phone number and ZIP code) is sent to Action Network, the vendor we use for our email and text message signups, to manage our supporter lists, and to send our emails and text messages. Action Network processes that information on our behalf and under its own privacy policy. They may use your information only to provide services to us.
  • Partner organizations. Allied organizations when you ask us to or when you take an action that a partner is co-sponsoring (excluding text messaging opt-in data and consent).
  • Legal and safety reasons. When we believe in good faith that disclosure is required by law, subpoena or other legal process, or is necessary to protect our rights, property or safety, or those of others.
  • Organizational changes. If we merge with, are acquired by, or transfer our assets to another organization, your information may be transferred, and the successor will be bound by this policy or must give you notice of any material change.

We may also share Anonymous Information, such as aggregated visit statistics, with anyone.

Text messaging originator opt-in data and consent will not be shared with any third party, except: (1) with vendors, consultants and other service providers who need access to such information to carry out work on our behalf (and who will not use such information for their own purposes); and (2) if we believe disclosure is required by any applicable law, rule, or regulation, or to comply with law enforcement or legal process.

Cookies, analytics and tracking

Cookies are small files a website places on your device. Pixels (also called tags or web beacons) are small pieces of code that send information about your visit to another company. The Site uses essential cookies that make pages load and work properly, and analytics tools that help us count visits and see which pages are most useful.

The Site also uses advertising and measurement technologies from Google (including YouTube and Google Tag Manager), Meta (Facebook and Instagram), and Basis. These technologies may run on any page of the Site, including pages you reach from our online ads. Google Tag Manager is a tool we use to manage and load these tags. These tools may collect your IP address, device and browser information, the pages you visit, and whether you took an action after seeing an ad, such as viewing a page or watching a video. We use this information to measure how well our ads work, show our ads to people more likely to be interested in our work, and show you our ads on other websites and platforms. These companies may combine this information with other information they hold about you, and their use of it is governed by their own privacy policies, not ours.

You can limit this tracking in several ways. Browser settings let you block or delete cookies, though parts of the Site may not work as intended. You can adjust ad personalization through Google Ad Settings and Meta Ad Preferences, and opt out of interest-based advertising from participating companies through the Digital Advertising Alliance or the Network Advertising Initiative. You can also turn on Global Privacy Control in your browser; we honor those signals where required by law. We do not control these companies' opt-out tools, and opting out does not stop all ads, only ads tailored to you.

Your choices

Email and text messages. You can unsubscribe from our emails at any time using the link at the bottom of any message. For text messages, reply STOP to opt out. Message and data rates may apply. We may still send you important administrative messages, such as responses to your requests.

Access, correction and deletion. You can ask us what Personal Information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it by contacting us using the details below. We may need to keep some information to meet legal obligations or resolve disputes, and deleted information may remain in backups for a limited time.

Residents of other states. If your state's law gives you additional privacy rights, contact us and we will honor them as required.

Security

We use reasonable administrative, technical and physical safeguards to protect Personal Information from unauthorized access, use or disclosure. No website or method of transmission is completely secure; accordingly, we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Links to other sites

The Site links to other websites, including our voter guide. We are not responsible for their content or privacy practices, and we encourage you to read their policies.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we will post the new version here and change the "Last Updated" date below. Continued use of the Site after a change means you accept the updated policy.
