We need leaders who will fight for affordable, accessible healthcare. Mike Rogers will only make things worse.

Mike Rogers has spent his career cozying up to Big Pharma companies–the same corporations that have been jacking up prices on life-saving medications to squeeze more money out of people who are already struggling. When he was in office, he took hundreds of thousands of dollars from Big Pharma and voted against policies that would lower prescription drug prices. He also helped them engineer the opioid epidemic by consistently pushing for expanded access to opioids.

He is also a vocal enemy of reproductive freedom who has said in the past that he supports “all restrictions on abortions” and worked to prevent people from accessing mifepristone, a safe, effective abortion medication.

While Trump and his cronies have decimated healthcare access by passing the Big BS Bill, which cut Medicaid, and canceled Affordable Care Act subsidies with no plan to replace them, Mike Rogers has cheered them on at every turn.

Rogers has also proven over the years that he will gladly use political power to line his own pockets.

He’s bankrolled by Wall Street and Big Pharma and did their bidding while in Congress. He voted to let companies like AT&T share people’s private information with the government. His wife’s company then profited from securing a $10 billion defense contract from the deal.

When he left Congress, he became a lobbyist for AT&T to push more deals for the corporation. He has railed publicly against China while profiting off of the same Chinese companies he criticizes. If Mike Rogers is in the Senate, who will stop him from lining his own pockets instead of doing his job?

Here in Michigan, we believe in people’s rights to live authentically without fear of discrimination. Mike Rogers disagrees.

He has opposed marriage equality and said he would have voted for a Constitutional amendment banning gay marriage if he had the opportunity. He opposed legislation to prevent workplace discrimination and voted to keep the “Don’t ask, don’t tell” rule that prevented gay people from serving in the military.

During his current campaign, he has surrounded himself with an array of bigots, creeps, and conspiracy theorists. Mike Rogers’ coalition includes people who have called for Jewish people to be exiled, said women don’t belong in politics, and defended an infamous group chat of young Republicans that was full of racial slurs, jokes about sexual violence, and praise for Hitler.

People like Mike Rogers want to drag us back into the past. We can’t let them.
